I recently discovered Aleksander Obinski and i’m already a big fan of his photography. His pictures are very powerful and full of emotion.

You can watch a slideshow on his website or visit his photoblog for a regular update …

word of the day

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Improve your english vocabulary and subscribe to the word-of-the-day-newsletter on dictionary.com. Thanks to this wonderful tool i already learned what for example foofaraw, hinterland, uxorious, eddy (yes, really! truly not joking!) and equanimity mean and in which context i should use these linguistic delights.

I also subscribed to the spanish-word-of-the-day-newsletter which explains the meaning of a spanish word in english. Quite an exercise for a flemish-speaker!
I’m not sure though these spanish words apply to the mexican language, cause i’ve noticed the mexicans just make words up. And therefore so do i, and that seems to be working just fine.

monumentenstrijd

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

passing on another stick

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Mr forksteel gave me the idea to pass on another stick. So hereby i’m asking him, hans, regis, jim and rico to make a selfportrait and post it on their blog. Do it now and do it without thinking too much about it!
Note: i’m not talking shadows on the ground here!

I’m not sure all of them will like this assignment … but don’t blame me for trying.

And off course, here is mine, to get started with … (click it for the original post)

this is me

passing on a stick

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Hans invited me to write 5 things about myself the rest of the world doesn’t know. He was asked the same thing by flawijn and wza started this crazy idea …

OK, here we go!

  1. On the map in my head Italy is attached to France on the west-side! When people tell me they drove to Italy through Switzerland, i think (only just a teeny tiny second) “why through Switzerland? Italy is on the other side!”. Though i do know where Italy is i keep having this problem. Is that because i’m a woman? We are not supposed to be good in geography and navigation, right?
  2. I really really don’t want to be a material girl, but i guess i have to admit i am. I’m not talking about diamond rings and expensive designer clothes. These are my sins: books, music (cd’s), movies (dvd’s), apple things (all of it!), everything that is compatible with my Nikon D70, a Nikon analogue body, lomothings, gocco (wonderful japanese thing), … and … and …
(This looks more like a wishlist then a confession, i am doomed!)
  3. One day i will probably regret this very girly habit: i keep a diary.
  4. I recently made a big fool out of myself in church. I normally don’t go to church and i’m not very familiar with religious traditions (my parents taught me to believe in myself, not in god). But because i’m in that particular stage of life of many friends getting married, i pay my respect to them by going to their wedding in church and not only to the party. So, last spring, at Wim and Dominique’s wedding i was suddenly standing in line for holy communion. Normally i don’t do that either, but unfortunately the crowd dragged me along and left me no choice. Once almost at the front i saw the priest standing there with a crucifix in his hands. Suddenly i panicked cause i saw the old lady before me kneeling down and kissing the crucifix. Well, i can tell you i didn’t kiss the crucifix (i’m not that naive) but in stead i stood there panicking, looking around and not knowing what to do. That in front of Wim and Dominique, their (very religious) parents and the huge queue behind me. Everybody was looking at me, “What is she doing, what is her problem?”. Right then and there i promised myself never to go to church again! Luckily the priest was very considerate and guided me through the ritual. “It’s ok, just put your hand on the crucifix and go back to your seat, that way.” Yeah right, the damage was done! Maybe this doesn’t sound so embarrassing, but believe me, it was! And on top of all, my boyfriend came behind me with a big smile on his face. He finds all this very funny, and still laughs about it today! Easy for him, he knows all these catholic rituals being practically raised in church.

P.S. One month later i did go to another wedding (don’t know why) and everything went very well. :-)

  5. I love Superman. Can’t help it.
Dean Cain is/was Superman to me. Just because he was the ‘current Superman’ on tv when i was a teenager. That was before Lois Lane became a desperate housewife …

So, to whom shall i pass this stick? I don’t now many people with a blog. Tessa? Stijn? Anton maybe? … Everyone who is interested, just shoot!

looking forward to your 5 things.
