John Mayer - CONTINUUM -

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

A recently discovered treasure. The first song i heard was ‘waiting on the world to change’. I liked it from the start: lovely tune, nice voice, good content.

I’ve put an mp3 on my website if you want to have a listen.

The music video of this song is also very good. Very simple, not quite original, but the photography is beautiful. It doesn’t always have to be as cool and hip as possible. I like it this way, you’re just watching nice images, that eases your mind.

The full album is named ‘CONTINUUM’. Also with a simple, though very good looking design which suits the music.

RED
Have you heard about (RED)? If not, have a quick look at the website.

The basic idea is: “If you buy a (RED) product or sign up for a (RED) service, at no cost for you, a (RED) company will give some of its profits to buy and distribute anti-retroviral medicine to our brothers and sisters dying of aids in Africa..

According to themselves, (RED) it is not charity, it is a business model. The (RED) companies provide luxury products: clothes, shoes, credit cards, cellphones and iPods. Now luxury consumers can choose (RED) to contribute to the world in some way.

(RED) has a good looking graphic, strong. It is also nicely adapted by the participating companies. I had a look at these companies and i have to say they are all applying the concept very well, off course, it is also a nice marketing opportunity for them. They didn’t just apply the label to one of their products, they really designed a whole new product or collection about it, you can even design your own shoe at the converse website! Altough the products don’t have to look red, they all provide a recognizable link. I guess soon choosing (RED) will be the ‘hip’ thing to do.
RED companies
Since red truly is my color and i’m such a caring woman (I absolutely am!) i’m already thinking of my very own (RED) product… I already own an iPod, the (RED)phone maybe? But my cellphone is in perfect shape, don’t need a new one! There we go again, luxury, grrr… Why can’t they provide (RED) coffee or something?

How about my f*** camera?

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

I guess one is not supposed to curse on the internet… but …
I miss my D70! The damned thing is still (since June!!) in Germany for reparation. It broke during a holiday in Portugal, the 2nd day already!
Now that I’m in Mexico it is definitely driving me crazy… It is my only Nikon digital body, so I have nothing else to use my lenses with. And I don’t have any suitable lenses for my Pentax body. The transfer cable of the small Sony camera got lost somewhere while moving (but I don’t like taking pictures with that one anyway). I guess I need to reorganize my equipment URGENTLY!

I constantly see a lot of beautiful things in this town which I want to shoot. Now I’m just trying to store everything into my brains so I can go out the minute my camera arrives.
This time of year there are quite some storms in this region. Strange thing to see! Normally when you see palmtrees, it is always in combination with blue sea and sunny skies. Now these same palmtrees are dancing around, blown from one side to the other by the strong wind. The sky is grey and looks so threathening… Beautiful drama!

You zermans! Get my camera over here!

Annelies Verbeke

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Annelies Verbeke is a dutch novelist. She writes about people in their daily life and enlarges the dark parts. The characters in her stories get carried away by their thoughts and get themselves into strange situations. While you are reading you definitely recognize certain thoughts and situations, altough her characters go quite far.

I read ‘Slaap!’ over one night, couldn’t sleep anyway. The insomnia in this book takes strange shapes. In general I sleep quite bad, but compared to the character in the book, I’m a happy woman! ‘Reus’ took a little longer to read, but was also very good!

Karin Fossum

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Apparently Karin Fossum is a big name in her own country (Norway). Her books are now translated in several languages among which Dutch. I’m currently reading one book after the other (got them as a present) and I really like them. Nice piece of crime-literature! I can’t decide which one I liked best until now.
If you are interested, editors Manteau / Anthos took care of the dutch copies.
