First of all, something about the language of this blog.
I was born in a country which native languages don’t reach quite far. In order to extend the range of this blog to all my friends, including the non-dutch speaking ones, i write in english. I am not a linguistic talent, and this blog isn’t about linguistic delights either, and therefore lots of spelling and grammar mistakes will slip in (for which i apologize). Feel free to correct me at any time, if it gets too crazy …
This blog begins where this one ends. (Sorry i couldn’t glue them together seamlessly. Sometimes technicalities can drive a person crazy …) I’ve deleted the extra pages about me there because they were a little outdated. In exchange i’ll try to expand this page as soon as i come up with a way to describe myself.
You’ll have to do with some plain facts for now:
- My name is Ties Dufraing. (don’t pronounce my first name as the plural of ‘a tie’, try ‘tease’ or ‘tees’ instead.)
- I’m female.
- I was born in the very north of Belgium.
- I drove my parents crazy writing and drawing on and with everything i could find from the moment i could pick something up and hold it in my hands. (that would’ve been around the age of, let’s say … 1)
- I attended a highschool which focused on fine arts.
- At the age of 18 i moved to Antwerp to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
- I graduated in 2003.
- My diploma says “Master in visual and plastic arts”.
- Since that is kind of vague, i’ll tell you i focused on graphic design and photography.
- After graduation i started working for Kinepolis as a projectionist. They trained me at the Ghent movie festival and Kinepolis Kortrijk projection cabine. After the training i worked at Kinepolis Antwerp. I was responsible for 10 movies at a time, 4 times a day. (note: A projectionist sets-up, operates, and maintains projectors, sound and other equipment, and also mounts pelicule.)
- All this time i was also self-employed as a graphic designer.
- After almost 2 years i decided to continue with graphic design on a full-time basis, that got me behind a desk at Oskar D (which i loved btw!).
- In september 2006 i followed my better half to Mexico, where we still live.
- Now, inspired by this country and loads of other things, i want to delete the word ‘graphic’ out of my profession, thinking that might be a start for doing something with the ideas which are nearly causing my head to explode.
I’ll keep you posted on that last sentence …
